Who? Joe White, Bryan Wolf When? We will start hiking September 7th, 2006 and finish near the beginning of March Where? The Appalachian Trail. The trail for us, will start in Baxter State Park on Mt. Katahdin in Maine. We will finish on Springer Mt. in Georgia. The trail goes through 14 states including Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. How are we getting there? Jon White will be dropping us off at the trailhead and hiking up to the top of Mt. Katahdin with us. How will we resupply on food? With the exception of a two-week section of the trail, we will actually be backpacking through or very close to a town every 5 - 10 days. In those towns, we have a list of post offices that will hold our food and supplies until we pick them up. What kind of food will we eat? For dinners we have an assortment of Mountain House dehydrated food. Those include: beef stew, pasta primavera, lasagna, chicken and rice, spaghetti, and beef stroganoff. For everything in between, we have marathon and power bars, pop tarts, trail mix, jerky, fruit snacks, crackers, cookies, gum, and the occasional ice cream sandwich. What about fuel for the stove? We will always carry enough fuel for 2 weeks in case of extreme weather. Our stove, made by MSR, is by far the best stove for extreme conditions. Fortunately, unlike other stoves, ours can use not only the standard camp fuel (white gas), but also kerosene, diesel, unleaded, and even jet fuel if that was are only option, (highly unlikely). What if someone wants to visit or hike with us along the way? If anyone has any interest at all, contact us ahead of time, so we can plan ahead. We would enjoy anyone that would like to simply visit or join us for a few days or so. Click here for contact info. Can we send you things while you are on the trail? Yes, you can do so by sending the letter or item to: AT trail package 5517 Dry Run Rd Milford, OH 45150. They will make sure the package is sent with our food. How much will our backpacks weigh? Our packs will vary from 50 to 65 lbs depending on food, water, fuel, and whatever we toss out. more coming soon.... |
